In April 2008, about 60 patients and caregivers gathered in Bethesda, Maryland, for the first ever International Chordoma Community Conference. Over the years, Chordoma Community Conferences have become a staple offering of the Foundation, serving as a time for our community to come together with the shared mission to cure chordoma. Each year we see the number of participants grow, and new friendships form. The conferences continue to be an inspiring resource to chordoma patients and caregivers, helping them become as informed as possible about life before, during, and after treatment.
“The CCC events do a fantastic job of teaching navigation skills, which enable patients to do proper research particular to their own situations and allow them to make informed decisions regarding care.” —Ed Les, chordoma patient
Chordoma Community Conference at MD Anderson Cancer Center
We began offering regional community conferences in 2015 – in addition to our biennial International Chordoma Community Conferences – to bring the latest updates in chordoma research and care to patients and caregivers in their own communities. We have been fortunate to partner with a number of leading medical centers throughout the U.S. and Europe to host these conferences, and are pleased to announce that we will host this year’s conference in collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston on Saturday, October 28.
Participants will hear from MD Anderson’s own leading chordoma experts who specialize in spine neurosurgery, skull base neurosurgery, radiation oncology, and medical oncology, as well as specialists in the fields of palliative care, integrative medicine, and survivorship care.
Details about registration, pricing, hotels, and session topics will be announced later this spring.
International Chordoma Community Conference
For our 2018 International CCC, we will return to the newly renovated Boston Marriott Cambridge Hotel. With more than 100 participants expected, the international conference will open with events on the afternoon of Friday, March 23, and continue on Saturday, March 24, with sessions designed to help participants gain practical skills to help manage the challenges brought on by chordoma. Topics will include recent research advances, current treatment recommendations, clinical trials, survivorship care, and quality of life.
Participants will have unique opportunities to learn from members of the Foundation’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Boards and ask questions about the latest treatment options and research. Time to connect and share experiences with others facing this disease will be available throughout the conference.
Details about registration, pricing, hotel reservations at the Marriott, and session topics will be announced later this summer.
“Align yourself with others with the disease. Even if you’re feeling shy, step out of your comfort zone, because you will meet lifelong friends who completely understand your disease and how you’re feeling.” —Nadine Cordova, chordoma patient
