Donate Games is a new organization on a mission to raise money to support orphan disease research. It was started by seasoned technology executive Jim Carol after his then 11 year-old son Taylor was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia. (Coincidentally, Josh and Taylor were diagnosed with cancer on the exact same day in 2006.) Taylor was blessed with a full recovery; however he and his whole family were left with an unshakable urge to make a difference in the lives of others.
During Taylor’s long stint in the hospital the Carol’s asked a simple question:"Why isn't there a charity that recycles used video games, reselling those games online to help the millions of sufferers of orphan diseases, fighting alone in these hospitals around the world?" so they set out to find a solution.
In February 2009, the Carol’s launched Donate Games, which collects used video games from gamers, and donates the proceeds from selling the games to organizations promoting research on rare diseases. The Chordoma Foundation was chosen as one of the first three recipients of Donate Games funding. Now anyone can make a difference and provide hope to chordoma patients simply by donating or buying games through Donate Games.
Coincidentally, one of the other three DonateGames beneficiaries is the Progeria Research Foundation, whose founders are friends and mentors of Josh and Simone Supporting Donate Games will help both organizations race towards a cure for their respective orphaned diseases.
