Why Donate
The Chordoma Foundation is the only organization dedicated to finding a cure for chordoma. We take a
big-picture, systems-based approach, ensuring that our efforts and resources are focused to achieve
maximum results in the shortest time possible. Beyond awarding grants, we take an active role in every
aspect of the research process by formulating research priorities, recruiting the best researchers,
initiating research projects, brokering collaborations, and breaking down barriers to research. While
leading a coordinated international research effort to accelerate the search for a cure, we strive to
improve the diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for people affected by chordoma.
The First International Chordoma Research Workshop brought together a multidisciplinary group of 53 physicians
and scientists from around the world, including some of the brightest minds in sarcoma research, drug
development, and human genetics. What emerged was broad consensus regarding research priorities, and an
action plan for moving towards a cure. The Chordoma Foundation serves as a hub for coordinating and
supporting the research projects that have emerged from the workshop, and acts as the engine to drive
forward the roadmap crafted by the workshop participants.
We have engaged numerous researchers across the world that are eager to study chordoma and take part in the
roadmap, however they are hindered by three major needs:
- chordoma tissue
- chordoma cell lines
- funding
Chordoma tissue and cell lines are the starting point for virtually all research; without these crucial
resources research will remain at a stand-still. Therefore our highest immediate priorities are to collect
and distribute chordoma tissue through a centralized tissue repository (BioBank) and to fund the creation
of high quality cell lines that can be shared with researchers around the world. Once these resources are
in place the possibilities for research are endless, and only then will funding individual research projects
be cost effective.
At the first workshop, researchers asked us for tissue and cell lines, and we promised to meet their needs.
In order to do so we must raise $500,000 ASAP. Please help us meet this goal and deliver on our promise to
the researchers before the second workshop in April 2008!
Your tax deductible donation is an investment in the lives of all chordoma patients, and will accelerate our
efforts to find a cure. Please
